Kalshi Delays Launch of US College Athlete Transfer Event Contract
BlockBeats News, December 19th, Predictive market Kalshi stated that, although a filing submitted to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) indicated that a market for U.S. college athlete transfer events was set to launch, it may not ultimately go live.
Prior to this, the news that Kalshi might launch contracts related to college athlete transfers had sparked outrage from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The NCAA President launched a fierce criticism on Wednesday, stating, "The NCAA strongly opposes the college sports predictive market. Student-athletes have already faced harassment and abuse due to betting on game performance, and now Kalshi wants to offer betting on their transfer decisions and status, which is absolutely unacceptable. It will bring greater pressure on student-athletes and threaten the integrity of games and the recruitment process."
