Trump Praises Powell as "Great" While Singling Out Bowman, Fed's New Chair Puzzle to Be Unveiled in a Few Weeks
BlockBeats News, December 19: On Thursday, Trump highly praised several Federal Reserve chair candidates. When asked about Federal Reserve Board member Christopher Waller, he mentioned that the two had met again on Wednesday and complimented him as "great." Trump also praised Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman but did not explicitly confirm her as a final candidate. Trump stated that he is interviewing "three to four" candidates for the Fed chair position and expects to decide "soon" on who will succeed Powell. "I think each of them would be a good choice. But not sure if the announcement will be made by the end of this year, but the decision will be made in the coming weeks."
During an interview last week, Trump hinted that National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett and former Fed Governor Kevin Warsh were leading contenders. At that time, he said, "I think both Kevins are great, and there are several others who are also great."
